Freight transport Portugal
Portugal is the farthest road destination in continental Europe for goods from Romania. We run full truckload, groupage and refrigerated trips to the industrial north (Porto, Braga, Aveiro) and to the Lisbon region.
Freight transport Romania – Portugal, in both directions
From Romania to Portugal go car parts and components, textiles, furniture and equipment. From Portugal come to Romania textiles and footwear, components for the car industry, cork, wine and food products. The long distance makes groupage a good solution for small quantities, and full truckload for steady volumes.
For freight transport to Portugal we organise:
- Full truckload (FTL): a 13.6 m semi-trailer just for your goods, directly from loading to unloading;
- Pallet groupage (LTL): for a few pallets or a partial load, priced per loading metre;
- Express van: for urgent parts and samples, with one or two drivers;
- Refrigerated transport: for food and temperature-sensitive goods, with ATP vehicles;
- ADR transport and oversize transport: with the documents and permits required in Portugal and in the transit countries.

The route to Portugal
The route goes through Hungary, Slovenia, northern Italy, southern France and Spain, entering Portugal at Vilar Formoso or Valença, depending on the destination. Between Bucharest and Lisbon there are about 4,000 kilometres, so for urgent goods a double crew makes the difference.
Road tolls and traffic restrictions
Portuguese motorways charge a toll, and on many sections payment is made only electronically, with no toll booth. Trucks must have a payment device or a compatible system, which we check when choosing the carrier. On the way, the tolls and restrictions of France and Spain are added.
Documents for freight transport to Portugal
As it is a member of the European Union, goods move to Portugal without customs formalities. For the transport you need an invoice or delivery note, the CMR consignment note, completed at loading and signed by the consignee at delivery, and the UIT code from RO e-Transport, if the shipment leaves Romania and exceeds the thresholds.
Special goods need additional documents: the safety data sheet and ADR documents for dangerous goods, the vehicle's ATP certificate for perishable food, or the special permits for oversize loads, issued in each country along the route.
Transport from Portugal to Romania
From Portugal we bring to Romania textiles, industrial components, cork, wine and other food products. Because the routes are long, we also plan the truck's return leg from the start.

Frequently asked questions
Can't find your answer? Write to us at contact@transport-marfa.com or call +40 731 095 863.
Is groupage worth it for Portugal?
For a few pallets, yes: you pay only for the space used. The transit time is longer than for a full truckload, because the goods are consolidated with other loads in the same direction.
Do you also deliver to Madeira or the Azores?
Transport to Madeira and the Azores is by sea, from the ports on the mainland. We can organise the road part to the port and tell you which sea options exist for your goods.
How long does freight transport from Romania to Portugal take?
With one driver, the typical transit time is 6–7 days, counted from Bucharest, and 3–4 days with two drivers. The exact time depends on the loading and delivery cities, on the departure day and on the weekend restrictions along the route.
How much does freight transport to Portugal cost?
The price depends on the distance, the road tolls in the countries along the route, the type of vehicle, how fast the goods must arrive and how many trucks are available on that route. Send us the addresses, the date, and the type and weight of the goods and you will get the price within 30 minutes during opening hours.
What documents do I need for a shipment to Portugal?
As this is an EU country, no customs formalities are needed for Portugal: the invoice, the CMR consignment note and the UIT code from RO e-Transport are enough, if the shipment leaves Romania and exceeds the thresholds. Dangerous, perishable or oversize goods need additional documents.
Do you also transport goods from Portugal to Romania?
Yes. We run trips in both directions, loading anywhere in Portugal and delivering anywhere in Romania.
