Freight transport Romania – Austria, in both directions

From Romania to Austria go car and electrical components, timber and wood products, furniture, building materials and food. From Austria come machinery, steel and metal products, industrial equipment and beverages. Many Austrian factories have suppliers in western Romania, so van trips for urgent parts are also frequent on this route.

The route to Austria

Trucks leave via Nădlac or Borș, cross Hungary via Budapest and Győr and enter Austria at Hegyeshalom–Nickelsdorf. From there, the A1 motorway leads to Linz and Salzburg, and the A2 to Graz. Austria keeps temporary checks at the border with Hungary, so waits may sometimes occur at entry.

Road tolls and traffic restrictions

On Austrian motorways and expressways, trucks over 3.5 t pay the GO-Maut toll, per kilometre. Trucks over 7.5 t do not drive on Saturdays from 15:00 until Sunday at 22:00, nor on public holidays, and at night there are speed limits and restrictions for noisy vehicles. In Tyrol, on the route to Italy over the Brenner Pass, extra bans and traffic metering at Kufstein apply.

Documents for freight transport to Austria

As it is a member of the European Union, goods move to Austria without customs formalities. For the transport you need an invoice or delivery note, the CMR consignment note, completed at loading and signed by the consignee at delivery, and the UIT code from RO e-Transport, if the shipment leaves Romania and exceeds the thresholds.

Special goods need additional documents: the safety data sheet and ADR documents for dangerous goods, the vehicle's ATP certificate for perishable food, or the special permits for oversize loads, issued in each country along the route.

Frequently asked questions

Can't find your answer? Write to us at contact@transport-marfa.com or call +40 731 095 863.

How long does transport from Romania to Austria take?

With one driver, the goods usually arrive in 1–2 days in Vienna or Graz and in 2–3 days in western Austria. From western Romania, Vienna can even be reached the same day.

Do you pass through Austria to Italy or Germany?

Yes. Many trips to southern Germany and to Italy cross Austria. We take the weekend restrictions and those in Tyrol into account, so that we do not lose time on the road.

How much does freight transport to Austria cost?

The price depends on the distance, the road tolls in the countries along the route, the type of vehicle, how fast the goods must arrive and how many trucks are available on that route. Send us the addresses, the date, and the type and weight of the goods and you will get the price within 30 minutes during opening hours.

Do you also offer pallet groupage to Austria?

Yes. For a few pallets or a partial load to Austria we use international groupage: you pay only for the space you use, per loading metre or per pallet, and the transit time is 1–3 days longer than for a full truckload.

What documents do I need for a shipment to Austria?

As this is an EU country, no customs formalities are needed for Austria: the invoice, the CMR consignment note and the UIT code from RO e-Transport are enough, if the shipment leaves Romania and exceeds the thresholds. Dangerous, perishable or oversize goods need additional documents.

Do you also transport goods from Austria to Romania?

Yes. We run trips in both directions, loading anywhere in Austria and delivering anywhere in Romania.
