Freight transport Hungary
Hungary is the neighbour that almost all trips to Western Europe pass through and an important destination in itself, with car factories and logistics centres around Budapest and at Győr, Kecskemét or Debrecen. We run trips in both directions, from a pallet to a full truckload.
Freight transport Romania – Hungary, in both directions
Between Romania and Hungary travel car and electronic components, food, building materials, furniture, chemical products and palletised goods for retail. The car factories at Győr, Kecskemét and Debrecen work with many suppliers in western Romania, so dedicated trips and van trips are frequent on this route.
For freight transport to Hungary we organise:
- Full truckload (FTL): a 13.6 m semi-trailer just for your goods, directly from loading to unloading;
- Pallet groupage (LTL): for a few pallets or a partial load, priced per loading metre;
- Express van: for urgent parts and samples, with one or two drivers;
- Refrigerated transport: for food and temperature-sensitive goods, with ATP vehicles;
- ADR transport and oversize transport: with the documents and permits required in Hungary and in the transit countries.

The route to Hungary
The main crossing points are Nădlac, on the A1 motorway, towards Szeged and Budapest, and Borș, towards Debrecen and northern Hungary, but there are also crossings at Turnu, Petea or Urziceni. Since 1 January 2025 there have been no permanent checks at the border between Romania and Hungary, so waiting times have dropped a lot.
Road tolls and traffic restrictions
In Hungary, trucks over 3.5 t pay the HU-GO road toll, calculated per kilometre, on motorways and main roads. Trucks over 7.5 t have traffic restrictions at weekends and on public holidays, with exceptions for certain types of goods, such as perishable products.
Documents for freight transport to Hungary
As it is a member of the European Union, goods move to Hungary without customs formalities. For the transport you need an invoice or delivery note, the CMR consignment note, completed at loading and signed by the consignee at delivery, and the UIT code from RO e-Transport, if the shipment leaves Romania and exceeds the thresholds.
Special goods need additional documents: the safety data sheet and ADR documents for dangerous goods, the vehicle's ATP certificate for perishable food, or the special permits for oversize loads, issued in each country along the route.

From Hungary we bring to Romania food, building materials, industrial components, chemical products and palletised goods from the distribution centres around Budapest.

Can't find your answer? Write to us at contact@transport-marfa.com or call +40 731 095 863.
How long does freight transport Romania–Hungary take?
From western Romania, Budapest is usually reached the same day. From Bucharest or the east of the country, delivery is usually made the next day.
Do you run van trips for urgent parts in Hungary?
Yes. For car industry suppliers we organise dedicated van trips, with same-day loading and direct delivery to the customer's ramp.
How much does freight transport to Hungary cost?
The price depends on the distance, the road tolls in the countries along the route, the type of vehicle, how fast the goods must arrive and how many trucks are available on that route. Send us the addresses, the date, and the type and weight of the goods and you will get the price within 30 minutes during opening hours.
Do you also offer pallet groupage to Hungary?
Yes. For a few pallets or a partial load to Hungary we use international groupage: you pay only for the space you use, per loading metre or per pallet, and the transit time is 1–3 days longer than for a full truckload.
What documents do I need for a shipment to Hungary?
As this is an EU country, no customs formalities are needed for Hungary: the invoice, the CMR consignment note and the UIT code from RO e-Transport are enough, if the shipment leaves Romania and exceeds the thresholds. Dangerous, perishable or oversize goods need additional documents.
Do you also transport goods from Hungary to Romania?
Yes. We run trips in both directions, loading anywhere in Hungary and delivering anywhere in Romania.
